Lean Mean Tropical Green Smoothie

March 14, 2012 by Melissa

I’ve been wanting to make more smoothies, especially since it’s actually been quite warm already down here in the south. This smoothie is packed with vitamins, minerals, and protein from the spinach (which I promise you cannot taste) and chia seeds (which you can omit if you don’t like or if you can’t find, but they do add to the texture and give a punch of protein), but it tastes like a bright tropical day (thank you pineapple and grapefruit). So healthy and so good!
Plus, it’ll give you a healthy, festive start (or snack throughout) the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day weekend, which isn’t always so healthy.
Tropical Green Smoothie
(makes one large smoothie)
1/3 cup chunked pineapple (I used fresh, but you can use canned)
¼ of a large grapefruit, segments only
½ cup packed fresh spinach
1 Tbs. chia seeds
3-5 large ice cubes
½ cup cold water
~Blend everything together until smooth! Easy as that.
(I used my fabulous pink immersion blender in a tall measuring container, but you can use a Bullet, or a blender!)
Strike up a conversation: Have you ever masked veggies in sweet treats?

I always add spinach to the smoothies I make for my kids.
