I Heart Keenwah Candy

April 17, 2012 by Melissa

This is the first quinoa product I wanted to tell you about, as mentioned yesterday!
I was really excited when I first heard about I HeartKeenwah. This is a candy, using quinoa! Because it highlights the grain as the star ingredient instead of hiding it, the candy tastes nutty and warm, and the sweetness leaves the taste of honey on your palate.

There are four flavors, and several kinds of nuts, fruits, and spices are used to give each one a unique profile. There’s Cranberry Cashew, Ginger Peanut, Almond, and Chocolate Sea Salt. With only 140 calories and around 3 grams of protein per serving, you’ll be excited to try all of them. They have a crunchy, brittle-like texture, and aren’t overly sweet. I especially love the Chocolate Sea Salt (imagine that), because you can taste primarily the nutty quinoa, and the thin drizzle of chocolate lends a sweet balance. And I was very surprised at how much I loved the peanut ginger, because I’m always afraid of ginger flavor, but this wasn’t too powerful and tasted mostly like peanut brittle, which I adore!
I think the only thing that bothers me about this treat is that the name is spelled phonetically, but as I have found, this is also true of other quinoa treats, so I guess it’s not so harsh of an offense 🙂
