Cookin’ Crunk Cookbook Giveaway

September 4, 2012 by Melissa

Hey ya’ll! Ever get really caught up in the accents that are flying off around you?

I’ve been reading a new cookbook that was delivered to me lately, called Cookin’ Crunk: EatinVegan in the Dirty South, by Bianca Phillips. I was so excited to be given this cookbook because, living in Memphis, I’ve met Bianca several times now. She works at the local newspaper, writes a vegan blog, and can be found at the Farmer’s Market on most Saturday mornings (and, if your lucky, you’ll run into her at the RedBox like I did!).
Her new cookbook is filled with Southern twang, with completely vegan recipes like Yella’ Cake with Fudgy Frosting (the classic dessert staple), Hot Tamale Pie (this sounds amazing since my family loves classic tamales but they’re way too much work!), and Creamy Cashew Mac and Cheese (no cheese but still creamy? Can’t wait!). I love that her recipes are easy to read and filled with style; you can almost see her and her badass granny turning their favorite Southern staples into vegan comfort food. She even shows you how to make seitan, a vegan meat alternative that you’ll never have to buy again (note seitan is made of wheat gluten so this is not a gluten-free protein alternative).

Although I personally am not vegan (have you seen my Instagram food?), I love cooking and baking vegan sometimes, and these recipes look absolutely mouth-watering. I wouldn’t miss the meat at all and I’m sure my fiancé wouldn’t even notice it’s gone.
I’m so excited to start cooking and baking with some of Bianca’s recipes and I’ll be sure to post my variations on them as I do!
Sound good? Want a copy of her cookbook too?? I’m so excited to be giving away a copy of Cookin’ Crunk to one of my lucky readers!!

I would love to win this book because 1 week ago I made the leap from vegetarian to vegan and definitely need all of the recipe help I can get.
I live in the South and having some home style favorites would be right up my alley…especially since they are vegan.

I have never cooked a vegan meal, but when preparing meals I emphasize veggies and whole grains. My man is a meat and cheese lover, but he he dutifully tries everything I make because hey – someone is cooking for him! Since he’s got the right attitude and I wouldn’t miss the meat at all, I’d like to try some southern vegan recipes to see if he even notices the difference. Cheers to healthy living!

Bianca’s new cookbook sounds so creative! I’d love to get my hands on that tamale pie. I’ve been vegan for several years, and so I’ve made many a vegan meal, of course. However, I’d gladly add more Southern cooking to my repertoire. Thanks for the giveaway!

I’ve cooked a lot of vegan meals over the past nine years! In fact, I made a delicious quesadilla with roasted Hatch green chiles and red peppers, chopped brussels sprouts and smoked tofu last night. I added some leftover southwestern-themed coleslaw and sprinkled with nutritional yeast before folding it all up in a flour tortilla to heat up in the cast iron skillet. I would love to win the cookbook to learn more delicious, Southern-inspired vegan recipes!

We love following Bianca’s food adventures via her blog. Her wonderful photos inspire us to experiment with ingredients both familiar and unfamiliar to create deep south dishes way,way down south in the southernmost part of mainland Australia.

We try to grow many vegetables and have over 20 different fruit trees in our garden. There’s nothing like stepping outside to gather truly fresh ingredients for a meal.

We’d love a copy of Bianca’s book and we’d love for her to know that part of her is crunkin’ Down Under. Go fresh and go veggie … and a big, warm G’day from Del and The Handsome One 🙂
