Foodie Penpals October Reveal

October 31, 2012 by Melissa

First of all…
Happy Halloween!!
Have you noticed how good I was this year? I didn’t buy a ton of candy! Well, at least not yet. Yes, I’m waiting for the sale. But, I promise that I have a specific purpose for the candy I am going to buy! And, I’m keeping it to the absolute minimum.
Yet another month has come and gone, which I can hardly believe.
I Sent my Foodie Penpals package to Sarah! She currently lives on a base in Korea with her hubby. So, keeping this in mind, I sent her a bundle of goodies that would remind her of Fall back home. I included lots of pumpkin and apple spiced goodies (including some of my super special Pumpkin Pie Nutty Spread) and some Halloween candy (I know it’s not super “foodie”, but when you miss holidays, the classics are the best!). I hope she loved everything!

This month, I had a very interesting Foodie Penpal to send me goodies. Michelle is a Cajun-foodie from Lafayette, LA. She is super sweet, and when she emailed me, she wanted to give me a taste of Louisiana (a place I’ve never been before!). I love spicy food and things with a lot of pizzaz, so I was excited to try anything she wanted to send.

Although the package contained some chips and cookies that I wouldn’t normally grab (my fear of buying junk food for myself is pretty deep-rooted), I was really surprised by the treats I loved! I LOVE dill pickles more than anything, so I was super stoked to see dill chips! Also, the package was filled with coffee goodies. I am a self-professed coffee addict, so this was perfection to me. All of the spices and salsa went over really well in my house because I use stuff like that on almost every dinner, and Steve and I love spicy eats. Yum!
Here’s the yummy stuff she sent:
Zapp’s potato chips: Cajun Dill Gator-Tators
Indiana Popcorn: Kettlecorn
Food Should Taste Good: Sweet Potato Chips
Community Coffee: New Orleans Blend coffee
Slap Ya Mama Cajun Seasoning:  Steve was really excited about this seasoning! I’ve just started using Cajun seasonings on everything (I’ve got a taste for somethin’ spicy!) so when he saw this one, he was really pumped! I used it all over the slow cooker chicken I made and turned into shredded tacos. I also used it to season some sautéed veggies and I love it! So yum.
Louisiana Hot Sauce: We consider ourselves hot sauce aficionados, so this is awesome. We like to put it on just about everything.
Voodoo Bayou Salsa:This salsa is absolutely amazing! It tastes like fresh chopped pico and I’ve been putting it on my eggs everyday and putting it on Steve’s tacos (because that’s what I make him a lot!)
Tropical Blend Crunch Dried Fruit: apples, bananas, pineapples, mangos
Go Raw: Live Granola Bar: I’ve had this bar before and really liked it! So, I was excited to see it make an appearance in my box.
Teeccino: Hazelnut Herbal Coffee “Tee Bag”: this stuff is really cool! It’s tastes just like a cup of hazelnut coffee, but it’s totally tea! It’s caffeine free and tastes SO yummy with some stevia and almond milk!
Teeccino: Maya Herbal Coffee French Roast
2 Gluten Free Cookies (one chocolate, one coconut macaroon)
Gourme Mist Balsamic Vinegar + Raspberry dressing: no oil, only 14 calories! Truly awesome because that is how I dress my salads! I’m a huge vinegar girl and usually that’s all I use, so I was excited to see this.
A dinosaur: Yup, a dinosaur. I’m a lucky woman. Michelle told me that her son insisted on putting a dinosaur in the box for me, which I found to be totally adorable.
Want to be a part of Foodie Penpals? I highly recommend it! It’s really easy too. You stick to a $15 budget, shop for someone you’re paired up with by Lindsay, and enjoy goodies from someone totally different who shopped for you! Make great friends and connections and try some new things! Here’s the link* for you to try it too!

Until seeing your photo, I didn’t know Indiana Popcorn made those littler bags. I’ll inhale that stuff, so having the multi-serving bag around here is… a challenge 😉 Looks like a great box you received.

I had no idea they made the little bags either! Great portion control!
