Dark Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

February 5, 2013 by Melissa

Ready for Round 2 of my super easy Valentine’s Day treats?

You probably saw this coming, but you can’t have Valentine’s Day without chocolate-covered strawberries! Sure, they’re a bit cheesy, but you know what? We all love them. We all want them. Admit it.

And, if you’re still doing awesome with your New Year’s resolution to be healthier, then this dessert won’t leave you filled with guilt come tomorrow.

Buying chocolate-covered strawberries can be ridiculously expensive, especially when they’re this easy to make! Make them for someone you love…or for yourself on your solo V-Day movie night (no worries, I’ve had many of those).

Oh, and ladies, I highly recommend pulling this page up, pushing print, and tucking it into your man’s briefcase (or gym bag…or Doritos bag)…that should be enough of a hint for him to roll up his sleeves and get crafty for ya.

What you’ll need:

Whole strawberries (try to find some with a bit of a stem)

½ cup dark chocolate morsels

Valentine’s sprinkles

~Lay out a sheet of wax paper or parchment to lay your finished strawberries on. Pour a pile of sprinkles onto a plate or into a small bowl, to roll the strawberries in. Carefully wash and thoroughly dry your berries.

~Melt your chocolate in a double-boiler on the stovetop OR in the microwave ( ½-power, 30 second intervals, stopping to stir, until the chocolate is melted).

~Hold the stem/top of the strawberry and dip it into the melted chocolate, let the extra chocolate drip off, then roll the chocolate-covered strawberry into the sprinkles. When the strawberry is covered to your liking, set it on the wax/parchment paper to set up. Dip all of the strawberries you were planning to prepare.

~Let the strawberries set up, placing them in the fridge to speed up this process. Store them in a sealed container until you’re ready to eat them. They are best when eaten the day they’re made. Enjoy!

Did you see my Chocolate-Dipped Valentine’s Marshmallow Pops yesterday?

Strike up a conversation: Have you ever received Chocolate-Covered Strawberries for Valentine’s Day?
I haven’t (ahem), but I always want them! They’re so beautiful and I can’t resist the flavor combo! They always look so romantic to me 🙂
