Super Berry Smoothie

June 16, 2014 by Melissa

Super Berry Smoothies are a nutrient-packed powerhouse that will leave you glowing! Blueberries, acai berries and goji berries are a Super Berry trio!

Super Berry Smoothie (treatswithatwist.com)

We are officially rolling hard core into smoothie town [ouch, sorry].

I know, you’re thinking “Melissa, 2 smoothies doesn’t make anything ‘hard core’ but thanks for the nutrish delish recipe.” Well, just you wait. Just saying [that, my friends, is called foreshadowing].

This one will have you seeing blue. Blueberries. Acai berries. Yesssss. And Goji berries…but those are red, and they blend in and the smoothie is still blue, so let’s just go with blue.

Super Berry Smoothie (treatswithatwist.com)

A few tips and tricks? I used Navitas Naturals Acai berry powder, but if you have pureed, frozen acai berries, add 1/4 cup of that to your smoothie (or as much as you want, really). But the powder lasts forever and I keep mine in the freezer to keep it fresh. Yum.

I used dried Goji berries. They can run the gamut in price but I found mine pretty cheap from an international market! Keep your eyes peeled.

And I used frozen blueberries and a frozen 1/2 of a banana. That keeps your smoothie cold, thick and not watered down (the less ice, the better!).

The Superfood Additions for this smoothie are spinach and vanilla protein powder (Vega). If you use the protein powder, just add 2 Tbs (not a whole scoop) so the flavor doesn’t overpower the berries. You’ll end up with a Super Berries n’ Cream smoothie when you add the protein because it adds a creamy hint of vanilla. The protein helps balance out the carb load and lowers the glycemic index, so I highly recommend it if that floats your boat. And, like I’ve said (until I was blue in the face…haha), the spinach blends in without adding flavor, and adds tons of nutrients and green goodness.

If you need a sweeter smoothie (you may taste it and think that the berry taste needs to pop more, which means you need a bit of sweetener), add 1-2 tsp. of honey, Stevia or a date. Adjust the sweetness to your liking.

Disclaimer: I was sent Navitas Naturals products to use in my smoothies, but per my own request. I know, trust and love Navitas Naturals products and highly recommend them. This is my personal opinion. Word.

This works for me! I am LOOOOOVING smoothies right now, and I will look forward to more of your posts. This would be a great one for my intense training cycles where I need to add in as many antioxidants as I can to help my body recover from my training runs. Thanks for the recipe, and great to “meet” you Melissa 🙂

I never would have thought to put goji berries in a smoothie!! That is clever, I’m going to have to try that. And of course, you can’t go wrong with berries 😉

Dude. I live in hard-core smoothies town. It neighbors bourbon town (easy access), but it’s a bit safer with a better school system.

Oh I love goji berries, but I’ve never added them to a smoothie. I might need a better blender for it to work out though.

If your blender is crappy, definitely soak the goji’s (and cashews) for 20 min in water before you make your smoothie! That’ll make them easier to blend!
