Iced Vanilla Matcha Latte

March 16, 2016 by Melissa

Matcha may seem complicated or intimidating, but my Iced Vanilla Matcha Latte is super simple and will blow your afternoon iced coffee away! Plus, it’s dairy free!

Matcha is green and I’ve been guzzling it like crazy lately, so this is the perfect week to talk to you about it!

I’ll admit, I was not crazy about matcha the first few times I tried it. I think, though, that is because I was always making it wrong. I wasn’t dissolving the matcha completely, I wasn’t sweetening it properly.

I am a sucker for teas and coffees that have a ritual or background. As in, I own coffee makers to make coffee specific to at least 5 different countries. I’m a geek like that. I’m really getting into tea in that sense too now!

Matcha is so beautiful. It is vibrant and green and you’re literally drinking the tea leaves because they’re ground into such a fine powder that you whisk into your drink. Traditionally, you use a cute little bamboo whisk and whisk it with hot water and add honey.

To make things easy, though, I’m forgoing the bamboo whisk here and we’re twisting it into an iced latte!

Don’t get me wrong, like I said, I love tradition. And I DO love a hot matcha latte. But…

An ICED vanilla matcha latte?! Made with almond milk?! Thickened and silkened with coconut milk (secret weapon)?! Sweetened with coconut sugar or Stevia?! YES!

I’d say this is definitely my new afternoon favorite.

Make sure you shake it well to dissolve the matcha completely. When you make it hot, you can use hot water or milk to whisk the matcha into a creamy green dream, but when it’s cold, you need to shake it or else you may end up with matcha chunks that you just can’t get rid of. So, shake it.

I’ll go back to hot if our weather ever decides to throw winter my way, but until then, this iced version is my jam.

This sounds like the perfect drink! I typically drink matcha warm but it never occurred to me to try it iced (duh). I love the addition of coconut milk too. Must try!

Do you use canned coconut milk or the refrigerator type ?

I use canned to get that thick, silky texture!

How about caramel matcha latte? I love chocolate-caramel flavor of carob powder but never mixed it together with matcha. It may spoil the recipe idea or take it to another level. I think I will give it a try! Thanks for inspiration.
