Spring Beauty Favorites

June 4, 2018 by Melissa

I’m SO excited to tell you all about my Spring Beauty Favorites! They’re basically a roundup of what I bought in the Sephora VIB sale, but there’s a few little extra goodies tucked in too. We’re talking skincare for summer, all the hair thangs and basically all of my feeble attempts at preventing any more sun damage to my face. Yay!

So, I’m sitting here watching Southern Charm, (the Charleston one, not the NOLA one) and shoveling in dark chocolate peanut butter cups from my Trader Joe’s stash and it occurs to me that I never shared all of my spring beauty products with you! I’ve been using ALL new stuff on my face and hair and I have to spill.

I haven’t been wearing much makeup lately. My boys have been napping or not napping at all at weird times, waking up earlier and earlier (ie during my “I should put makeup on” time), and I’ve been working out mid-morning which leaves me too lazy to put on makeup afterwards. So most of what I wear is skincare. Everything is on the more natural side and my face has been loving it.

HAIR

I also switched my hair care. I had been using Organix shampoos and conditioners for YEARS. But some psoriasis/eczema on the back of my neck has been just awful since my hormones are on a rollercoaster ride after giving birth, so I decided to see if my hair care has been making it worse. I picked up these all natural Love Beauty and Planet shampoo and conditioner at Target. So far, I love them! They leave my hair super clean and don’t dry out my scalp like a lot of products do.

I also hopped on the coconut mask train. After seeing Lee From America on Instagram do hers, I figured it couldn’t hurt. You just scoop coconut oil into your hands, let it warm up, then massage it scalp to tips; twist your hair into buns to keep it all together and let it sit. I actually love how much moisture just soaks into my scalp while I let it sit. I did the mask for a whole day, but she recommends 24hrs. I just can’t sleep with my hair up, so I showered before bed. I’ll definitely be doing it again soon!

SUNCARE

I’ve been using the Korres Yoghurt SPF for my face and neck everyday and the Supergoop eye cream for around my eyes and lips. I LOVE these two. It’s not even summer yet, but it has been in the 90s in Memphis with intense sun, so I can safely say I haven’t gotten burned yet while using these. They soak in quickly, don’t leave you feeling like you’re wearing sunscreen, and don’t make my skin breakout. Win.

NIGHT

At night I have been reaching for the Drunk Elephant C-Tango eye cream. It’s creamy, soaks in quickly and leaves the skin around my eyes feeling really hydrated. Plus, it doesn’t burn when I rub my eyes. Do I look 10 years younger? Not yet, but how am I supposed to know? Shrug. I’ll definitely keep using this one though.

The Korres pomegranate face moisturizer is my go-to for an all-over face and neck cream. I also use it on the overcast rainy days or those days I know I’m not going outside at all. This stuff is perfect for summer. It soaks all the way in, leaves no film, doesn’t make my face breakout and smells nice too. I also love that I don’t have to wait forever to put makeup on top of it if I use it in the morning. At night, it’s so soothing and slightly cooling. Love it.

I also have been using the Kiehls midnight recovery serum. I got it as a sample and you only need a little drop to cover your whole face. I seriously think it has been helping keep my skin clear and looking so healthy (because, like I said, I’ve been barely sleeping and eat a lot of chocolate…). I’ll probably have to bite the bullet and buy the full-sized one after this one runs out.

Annnndddd MAKEUP

I ordered the Tarte Gifted mascara in the Sephora VIB sale. I didn’t love it at first because I think I got a tube that’s a little too dry. I have to layer and layer before I feel like I put it on. But after using it for a month, I think it’s been going on easier and I honestly think it’s been making my eyelashes grow…or something! I’ve had several people say my eyelashes look like an Instagram filter. So that’s a plus! Also, this eyelash curler. BEST purchase ever.

I’ve also been dusting on a little bronzer some days (as in, just concealer, mascara and bronzer…done). I’ve been reaching for the NARS Laguna one or adding a drop of the CoverFX enhancer drops in Candlelight into my moisturizer/sunscreen.

That’s it! If you have any favorites, I want to know! Also, catch up on my last beauty post HERE.

Annnndddd my husband just walked in with a 20 pound smoked brisket. Not joking. Back to watching Kathryn be QUEEN this season after getting bitched out by Ashley. xoxo
