Memphis Farmers Market, a Snack, and a Giveaway…

April 9, 2012 by Melissa

This weekend was wonderfully eventful. The Memphis FarmersMarket kicked off their season on Saturday morning. We walked over and looked through all of the booths while I sipped my morning coffee. I was so happy to see such a wide variety of locally grown produce (salad greens, heirloom tomatoes, strawberries, pecans, etc), honey, jams, baked goods (I could guarantee that they weren’t the healthy kind either), and flowers. This was an awesome start to the weekend, since I knew I’d be missing my FayettevilleFarmers Market, which had become a Saturday morning tradition for me for several years.

Easter Sunday was nice and quiet. We spent the morning driving around looking at potential neighborhoods and houses (exciting!) and the afternoon watching The Masters (imagine that). I found a new favorite snack too! I’ve confessed many times to being a popcorn-aholic, and as an alternative to my traditionally spherical friend, PopCorners makes a “popcorn chip” that’s flat and triangular! My favorite flavor is Kettle, which is has a toasty warmth and is salty sweet. Steve loved the Jalapeno Cheddar, which has a mild cheddar flavor and a bit of a bite to it. I’m just so excited about having been introduced to these, and will be so sad when my bag runs out (and they’re really low in calories too, unlike chips, because they truly are popcorn…and gluten free too!).
Now for my giveaway! I’m giving away an OXO handheld mandoline to one lucky reader! I was so excited to receive my mandoline in the mail, because I have always wanted to be able to make my own veggie chips, tackle a shaker pie, and conquer the thinly-sliced pear or apple galette. It’s really amazing how quickly things can get done when you have the right tools, and you’re not trying to thinly and uniformly slice your fruit and veggies by hand! And, I have one for you too!
**NOTE: THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED! CONGRATULATIONS “SAND”**
To enter to win: Simply be a follower of my blog, and leave a comment below telling me what you’d use your mandoline for!
Don’t forget to include an email address with your comment so I can contact you if you win! I’ll wrap up the giveaway on this Thursday (April 12, 2012) evening and announce and email the winner on Friday [you’ll have 24 hours to respond to claim your prize].

And, slicing onions seems like it would be a great use for this, or potatoes for au gratin!

I follow you via RSS feed. I’d use it to make onion rings! They aren’t my favorite, but Hubs would love them!
