Homemade Cinnamon Apple Instant Oatmeal Mix

June 7, 2012 by Melissa

Do you ever buy your oats in bulk but then in the back of your mind, long for those little brown packets of pre-portioned flavorful oatmeal mixes? Well, it’s really easy and inexpensive to whip up your own! Pull out your small storage bags or jars and use the recipe below to make as many portions of oatmeal mix as you’ll want or need to be prepared for breakfasts! Plus, it tastes so much fresher and less sugary than the pre-packaged mixes.
Homemade Cinnamon Apple Instant Oatmeal Mix
(1 portion)
1/3 cup quick cooking oats
1 tsp. Splenda
½ tsp. cinnamon
1 dried unsweetened apple ring
~First, use kitchen scissors or a sharp knife to cut the dried apple ring into small pieces. Then, combine all of the ingredients into a small zip-close storage bag or an air-tight jar until you are ready to use it.
~To prepare your oatmeal: combine the instant oat mix with 2/3 cup of water in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 1 min – 1 min, 30 seconds, or until water is absorbed. Enjoy!
Strike up a conversation: What was your favorite oatmeal packet flavor when you were a kid?

Such a cute idea! 🙂 Love this for a pick-me-up gift for a friend or maybe someone who has been feeling a little under the weather and could use a little TLC.
