Fabulously Fit Friday 2

September 28, 2012 by Melissa

This week didn’t go as fabulouslyas last week.

After a great week, the allergy sick bug hit me hard. I spend the weekend trying to have a great time doing wedding things with my mom, but all the while feeling tired, stuffed up, and like my throat hadn’t hurtso bad in a very long time. You win some, you lose some.

This being said, my focused shifted to wellness. Resting my body, maintaining excellent nutrition, and revaluating my fitness goals.
Good nutrition this week means a lot of protein oats:
Birthday Cake Protein Oats
The reevaluation of my goals led me to conclude that participating in the 15K I signed up for so long ago is no longer logical or practical with my current schedule and interests.

It’s really hard to explain, but this was really difficult for me to admit because, if you know me, you know that I don’t like plans to change AT ALL. I always set out a schedule and finish what’s on the list, so having to be honest and say “No” to something was very difficult for me.
When I go out of town for the weekend, I always pack a baggie
of oats and protein and go shopping for berries
and yogurt.

Between wedding planning, joint pain, improper training, the anxiety that comes with increasing my calories during the end of training for an endurance race (I have a lot of issues with food, so making myself increase my calories is a real mental trip every time), a sudden passionate interest in interval training and new exercises (weights, Bikram yoga), my parents not living in the city the race is in anymore…just to name a few things…I just didn’t have the passion that I needed to train for this race. That was really hard to admit, but after I did, I felt relieved.

Forcing yourself to do something athletically that you’re not ready for is just asking for injury! Don’t do it unless you’re prepared for it!
This is really good, I promise. I love oat bran with chia, topped
with fresh plum an scrambled pb-egg whites with spinach.

I now feel like my training is on the right track. Training? “For what?” you ask…well, I’ll just call it training for The Big Day. Yes, I have a long time until that Day comes, but it’ll be here before I know it and I am going to be 100% prepared. I am going to try to enjoy it too, with new routines and new activities!

The Sweaty Breakdown:
Monday: Weights – arms, legs, abs
Tuesday: Plank circuit workout; arm weights
Wednesday: rest
Thursday: Elliptical Sprint HIIT

Fabulous Fitness Finds:

This week the Polar Heart Rate Monitor I ordered finally came in! You can never rely on the machine calorie burn counts, and the only accurate way to calculate burn is by your heart rate, so I’m so excited to be using my new toy. It’s incredibly eye-opening when you know just how much of a result you got from your effort. Plus, it’s pink…so…yeah.

Strike up a conversation: How did your fitness go this week? Did you find any Fabulous Fitness Finds? Did you have any personal revelations?
