September Foodie Penpals Reveal

October 1, 2012 by Melissa

This month was another great one with the Foodie Penpals program!

First of all, I sent my package to Sydney. She was super sweet and vegan and wanted some homemade granola that would remind her of the fall flavors she loves so much. Done! I had a great time making some “Spiced Apple Pie Granola” for her and hunting for her favorite flavors and healthy things in Trader Joe’s (blueberry milled chia!). Sydney just started a blog of her own, called Alternative Vegan.

I received a package this month from Mollie! Mollie was a self-described professional student, studying psychology, from Connecticut. I thought she was so amazingly nice and had the coolest experiences since she’s from an area of the States that I’ve never even been to before (and she hadn’t really traveled my area either so that made for some interesting conversations).
She was super excited to shop for me and it was reflected in the package she sent me. Here are the interesting and awesome treats she sent me! She sent me one of every favorite flavor I listed!

Artisana Raw Cashew Butter: I absolutely love the mellow taste of this nut butter. It’s so creamy dreamy!

Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter: What can I say?! This melts like a dream in my dessert chocolate oats!
Stretch Island Fruit Co. fruit strips: mango sunrise, summer strawberry, orchard cherry: What a lifesaver these turned out to be! I threw one in my gym bag, the others in my work bag; and I ended up reaching for them on drives home from work where I was stuck in traffic and at my wits end, hungry. How yummy! And they’re super low in calories (appx 40!).
Danielle Coconut Chips: Ummmm…yum!! I LOVE coconut, and these were big coconut shavings, toasted with a little sugar for a sweet and natural snack! How amazing.
Sun Cups: Dark Chocolate Sunflower Butter cups: This was so interesting to me! I’d never had sunflowerseed butter, but have had every intention of making it (you know, when I get that fancy shmancy blender that can tackle butters). I was blown away by the mix of dark chocolate and a creamy, slightly salty treat that tasted just like sunflower seeds, which I love!
Bishop’s Orchards Apple Butter (no-sugar): This stuff is my favorite new spread. It comes from an orchard local to Mollie, and boy is she lucky. It has zero sugar, warm cinnamon spice, and is perfect in my morning oatmeal or stirred into plain Greek yogurt. I’ve been eating it by the spoonful (shhh…don’t tell anyone!).
Chocolove: Chocolate Coffee Crunch: I absolutely love this brand of chocolate bars and I always have several in my stash, but I’d never seen this flavor before! I was so excited that she found a mix of coffee and dark chocolate, and I’m in love with it. Mmmm…
Wholesome Fair Trade Cain Sugar: I’ve always heard about using raw sugar in baking (although it has the same calories as other sugars), and I was excited that she thought of including an interesting ingredient for me to bake with! In recipes that don’t call for very much sugar, I’ve been using this! I love that the large crystals lend big flavor and melt well into baked goods. I’m sold for sure.

 Amazing, right?!?!

Of course, I highly recommend everyone join the Foodie Penpals program. It’s open to anyone who loves new food experiences and you don’t have to have a blog to participate!! Just click this link and sign up.

Oh ow! I am so super jealous of your Pen Pal package! 🙂 And the sunflower seed butter chocolate cups?? Makes me wish I wasn’t allergic to sunflower seeds, lol!
It is awesome that your Pen Pal was so thoughtful and took into consideration all your favorites. That is awesome. 🙂

Those coconut chips sound really good. I wonder if I can get them around here somewhere. And chocolate coffee crunch? Need to find that too. Thanks so much for sharing your FPP package with all of us 🙂
