Friday Things

August 30, 2013 by Melissa

(Normally this is Fabulously Fit Friday, but since I didn’t even mention how sweaty I got this week in this post, I decided to rename it today.)

I’ve had a really rough week. I’m talkin seriously rough. I’ll hash it all out for ya in sarcasticly comical prose soon, but right now, I just can’t. But I’ll give you a hint:

Besides someone dying, what’s the worst thing you could think of happening to your wedding when it’s only SIX weeks away? Stew on that.

But I will pretend like I found a silver lining to being so upset and in numbing shock. Well, for one, I received a badass Breville Smart Oven as a wedding gift this week, for which I practically wept with excitement. It was a relief to have something cool show up at my door after a bad day!

Also, if you grew up in the 90’s, you HAVE to read this! Certainly made me crack up (and roll out of my chair).

Oh and Disney fans, read this! Because we all KNOW that those Disney characters have serious mental health issues!

In addition to finding some reads to put a smile on my face, I bought two bottles of wine (gotta have a red and a white) because I haven’t actually purchased wine in…maybe 2 years? I have had a glass with dinner once every few months, but I definitely need to start brushing up on my wine drinking skills, since my bachelorette party is next week and all.

I’m trying new recipes out this week. Food recipes. Not treat recipes. Well, yes treat recipes too, but I’m talking about the stuff I have to eat in between. It’s been really fun! I’ve been trying smoothies for breakfast (I just never drink them; I don’t like drinking my calories and I like chewing my breakfast, so I never make smoothies) and have been having a great time! I’m shocked. I guess its the fact that I can pour it in a reusable Starbucks Venti tumbler and be “eating” breakfast while doing my makeup and then taking it with me as I drive to work, that makes it a lot more appealing to me now.

Am I totally converted? Nope. I miss my oats. I see all your pictures on Instagram of oat creations, and I think “woah please!!!” So, I’ll probably be doing a little of both as I see fit.

This week on Treats I made:
Chocolate PB Snack Cake (vegan, low-fat):

Blueberry Green Smoothie:

I’ll leave you with a picture of the Seattle skyline that my fiance sent me from his business trip this week. Lucky guy. I’ve never been there and this looks amazing!

Have a wonderful weekend! Let me know what you did this week!

Now I totally get why I’ve always felt a strange connection to Ariel. (Also, she has Daddy issues. They forgot to point that out.)

    Hooray for “real” food. 🙂

Um, I don’t know what happened to your wedding, but I DO know it will be amazing regardless. I also know that Seattle is where we will be headed for the friends-through-blogging weekend I have cooking in my head. Well, first Austin, then Seattle. I’ve always wanted to go there. [OK, maybe first, Tennessee…]

I cannot TELL you the last time I bought wine. I just get bored with it so quickly.

Thank you girl! I’ve had a really hard time trying not to stress, but things just crumbled down in the worst way this last week when my venue closed on me and I have no idea how to throw together my wedding again in such a short time. I worked so hard for over a year so it’ll be “us” and now, I know that nobody (including myself) will ever get to see it. So it’s been a “letting go” situation over the last week.
        Thanks for your support!

I think something better will come from this. Like a blessing in disguise. I can feel it!

That snack cake looks so delicious!! I love that you are practicing drinking wine pre bachelorette party, definitely a smart move 🙂

I never used to like smoothies either and then I got converted and am now obsessed with them.
